Saint Thomas Aquinas belonged to a rich family in the 13th century. When he decided to join the newly-founded congregation of the Dominican priests, his family was against him, and imprisoned him in a castle. He escaped and eventually became a Dominican priest.
He taught theology to university scholars, preached in town squares, and wrote many books. He was an intellectual giant who influenced Christians on how to live a Christian life and was known for his humility and detachment from earthly possessions.
