Thirst - Our desire for God, God's desire for us
AUTHOR Josè Tolentino Mendoca
This book, based on the retreat Fr Mendonca preached to the papal household in Lent 2018, explores the theme of thirst, returning again and again to the story of Jesus' meeting with the Samaritan woman at the well. The thirst is mutual: we go to the well to meet Jesus, and Jesus goes there to find us. This theme recurs throughout the scriptures, in both Old and New Testaments - to the last lines in the bible, in the Book of Revelation: "And let everyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who wishes take the water of life as a gift."
Contents include: The science of thirst; I realized I was thirsty; The thirst of Jesus; Tears tell of thirst; Drinking from one's thirt; the forms of desire; Listening to the thirst of those on the periphery; The beatitude of thirst.
