Saint Oscar Romero

Archbishop Romero firmly affirmed the values of the Gospel in a context where life, truth and justice were blatantly dismissed. He walked as a man of faith and an advocate alongside his people, especially the poor and vulnerable.

He became God's microphone, re-echoing the fact that every person created in the image and likeness of God was worthy of a dignified life. He stood tall as an inspiration and a beacon of hope for many, but there were those not willing to let his voice, steady and firm call them to repentance. With shots to his chest, they silenced his voice, but that was just one voice. Many listened to him during his life time and many more continue to listen to him after his death.
