Get to know the History Books opens up this vast epic for today's readers.  It asks what kind of history this is - who wrote it, for whom, when and why -then follows the story Israel told three times, each telling with its own lens: sin, death and confession; grace, resurrection and thanksgiving; heroism, fidelity and the saints.  It does not look away from the difficult pages - the violence, the politics, the ways in which these texts have been used and misused - but shows how a story of repeated failure becomes , again and again, a story of grace.  Through faith, this history becomes ours too - not a past to look back on, but a call to live faithfully now.
